Research Participation Opportunity
The UFLAC Center for Health and Wellness is excited to support and participate in research that focuses on the experiences, well-being, and treatment of first responders. Below is an opportunity for the membership to participate in this type of psychological research.
Research specifically examining the unique experiences of firefighters and other first responders can help us better understand the challenges they face and contribute to the development of more effective, specialized, and responsive approaches to treatment and support.
We encourage eligible LAFD members to consider participating in this important study and sharing their experiences. Participation is completely voluntary and confidential. Any LAFD member who meets the eligibility requirements of the study is welcome to participate.
Email Recruitment for an Online Survey/Questionnaire
My name is Griselda Zermino, and I am a doctoral student at National University. I am conducting an online survey to better understand how spirituality, resilience, moral injury, and perceived organizational support are related to mental health outcomes among firefighters, including anxiety, depression, burnout, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and substance use. Participants will be encouraged to complete the survey in a private, quiet space where they feel comfortable and free from interruptions. This helps ensure confidentiality and allows participants to respond honestly, particularly given the sensitive nature of some of the questions.
You are eligible to participate if you are:
· A current or former career firefighter
· Between the ages of 23 and 62
· Have at least 3 years of experience
The survey is anonymous and has 9 measures, with a total of 173 statements (all on a Likert scale), where you will select the term that best fits you. It will take about 30 minutes to complete. It will ask questions about demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity, marital/relationship status, years of service, and current fire service role), and perceptions on spirituality, resilience, moral injury, perceived organizational support, anxiety, depression, burnout, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and substance use.
