PAID PARENTAL TIME (KL) ARBITRATION SETTLEMENT

Brothers and Sisters,

UFLAC took the Department to arbitration over the implementation of the Paid Parental Time (KL) policy, after members reported that qualifying leave was not properly converted to KL and that their own compensated leave was depleted.

UFLAC agreed to settle the case based on the Department’s admission that it had not adequately restored members’ depleted leave banks, and demonstrated commitment to resolving all outstanding discrepancies. Members have reported corrections, and the Department has demonstrated that the additional Workday issue has been resolved going forward. Members who follow the proper Paid Parental Time procedures should no longer have their own leave balances depleted as they were previously.

Some members may still be awaiting full restoration of leave or correction of their payroll records. UFLAC has notified the Department of these outstanding cases and requested immediate review. If your correction is not made promptly, report it to the Employee Relations Division at:
lafd.employeerelations@lacity.org and copy your UFLAC Executive Board representative or Secretary Ryan Quigley at rquigley@uflac.org.

Please also copy UFLAC on any email to the Department reporting a new KL, payroll, or leave balance issue. Include the approximate leave dates and a brief description of the discrepancy so we can help track it through resolution.

In Solidarity,
UFLAC Executive Board
